Pangasius nursery protocol with Than Vuong products: from fry to harvest at 30 fish/kg

The whole protocol in one article: pond preparation, stocking, the first 25 days, care until harvest, disease prevention and sale. Every page in this section follows it.

Research on pangasius fingerlings

Summarised from the original papers. Figures are the results of those studies, not a promise for every pond.

Parasites in 20 nursery ponds in Can Tho, Vinh Long, Dong Thap and An Giang

857 fry, advanced fry and fingerlings examined from March 2018 to January 2019. Nine parasite genera were found; Trichodina occurred at every stage, while the monogenean Dactylogyrus appeared from the advanced-fry stage on.

Rearing temperature from fry to small fingerling

In tanks for 60 days: the upper and lower temperature thresholds of fry were 35 °C and 21 °C. The authors suggest rearing at 27–33 °C, optimum 30 °C; at 24 °C and 36 °C fish were stressed and grew slowly.

Higher pH makes total ammonia nitrogen more toxic

Fingerlings of 8.1 g: the 96-hour LC50 of TAN was 1,263.2, 257.7 and 52 mg/L at pH 6, 7 and 8. These are lethal doses, not safe levels.

First feed of pangasius fry

The density and size of the planktonic organisms used as first feed had a decisive influence on fry survival.

Tail rot in striped catfish fingerlings

Flavobacterium columnare was identified as the cause of disease in fingerlings with high mortality in commercial hatchery ponds in Vietnam.

Transport stress in striped catfish

Cortisol and glucose differed significantly only in the 4-hour and 6-hour groups, not at 2 hours. A day after restocking, cortisol was still high.

In-feed Bacillus probiotic in a farm trial in Bangladesh

In the second nursery phase, survival was 58.58% in the best probiotic group and 28.73% in the lowest group. This is the trial's probiotic, not a Than Vuong product.

Common diseases of pangasius farmed in Vietnam

Bacillary necrosis causes heavy deaths in fingerlings and peaks in the rainy season when temperatures drop below 28 °C. Trichodina and Epistylis cause heavy infections and mortalities during the nursing period.
